NatureFest 2011! A Weekend Celebration!

You are invited…Mark you calendars!  The 15th annual NatureFest at Congaree National Park will be held the weekend of April 16 and April 17, 2011!  Bring the whole family to explore your National Park amid the splendor of spring.  Join us to celebrate National Park Week, National Junior Ranger Day, and Earth Day.  Children will be able to earn National Junior Ranger badges, patches, and certificates and participate in activities including, “Colors of Congaree,” “Skins & Bones,” and “Owl Puke.”

Saturday begins with “Welcome Back Wood Warblers,” an early morning walk to listen for the birdsong chorus and identify some of the neo-tropical migrants that have arrived for the summer.  The day continues with a variety of guided walks including, “Walking the Wetland,” “Finding Giants,” and “Gaps & Saps-Succession in the Forest.” The Carolina Raptor Center will present live birds of prey programs at ten, twelve, two, and four.

Join us Sunday for the “Butterfly Blitz,” “Nature Discovery Hike,” and “Primitive Technologies Demonstration.” The annual Spring Walk led by naturalist Rudy Mancke will take place at 1:30 p.m. Reservations are required; call (803) 776-4396.
